PROSE

Orpheus to Eurydice

I was laid low by your love

Cast unto the ground by the sorrowful call of mourning doves

I find this bridal bed to be a coffin not yet christened

You, my melancholy mistress, still hesitant to follow behind me

Afraid to look ahead

However you could wound me deeper than delphinium

The deadly flower now no more than a pleasant scent

If you are Eurydice I will happily play Orpheus

Allow me one glance back

Let it be a good one

Lately I find myself frozen before a grand archway

Warm light shines upon my eyes but I cannot make myself pass through

I know that when I turn around I will not see you

If I must remain here in hades then so be it

The only real purgatory I know is a world without you
